Very late with my next book! Here’s why…

Ugh. I feel horrible to be writing this post without good news to share, but I realize it’s been far too long since I’ve last updated all you lovely people, and I should just stop putting it off.

I’m so excited to share the next book in the Reality TV Romance series with you… but the truth is, I’m just not happy with the story. I loved writing America’s Favorite Couple, and it went pretty quickly, too – Casey wanted her story told.

Violet has been a bit more… elusive. Some of her story beats just don’t feel right to me, so I’m working on figuring out how I can improve that.

That, combined with the logistics of making everything work with the timeline of the show – keeping track of all the participants, all the dates they had, and how everyone felt and behaved and thought… it’s more complex than writing the first in the series, because it has to mesh up with the timing from the first book. Would you believe I’m actually using a timeline app to keep track of everything? It’s kind of crazy. Definitely a lot more organization required than just “letting the story flow.”

Combine that with other life demands, and I’m just not making the headway I wanted to on the next book. I actually had hoped to have it ready by mid-summer, so my publisher could get it out by late-summer, and then I was thinking maybe I could have the next novel ready before the end of the year. (Olivia really wants me to tell her story!) Obviously I’ve missed those timelines completely.

The truth is, maybe I was a little overly ambitious about how much I’d be able to accomplish this year…

And yeah, there’s been a lot going on in the world this year that has made it difficult to focus on Reality TV Romance. It’s hard to feel creative and get excited about love stories in this TV show type of setting, when it feels like there’s so much bad stuff happening to so many people who deserve so much better. It’s tough to get into the right mindset, when I feel so much negativity and so many serious things coming at me from so many directions.

Anyway, not to turn this into a pity-party! The holiday season is always hectic, but I’m committed to getting back into the swing of things in the New Year and make the improvements to the story that I think will make it ready for readers. I’d like to suggest that maybe it’ll be ready for the anniversary of the first book in the series, but I don’t want to over-promise again. Just know that I’m still here, and these people are still banging around in my head clamoring to tell their stories! So hopefully I can get back to entertaining you fine folks sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, I hope you all have a lovely holiday season, filled with family and friends and joy and laughter. (And who am I kidding? Tons of tasty food!)

For myself, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a snowy winter where I can hunker down with some coffee and some hot cocoa and tell some stories.
